Luisa and her husband Emerson applied for a respite break with their two daughters back in 2021 but due to ongoing treatment were unable to go on a trip. Sadly in early 2022 Emerson passed away. To support each other through their grieving process and to focus on something positive we were able to send Luisa and her two daughters to Disneyland. Luisa tells her story below:
“I would like to thank you and the team for the lovely time I spent with my girls at Disney.
We truly loved every minute of it and all the lovely memories we made will surely not be forgotten ?
Unfortunately as you know, my girls and I lost Emerson to cancer and it has been hard to manage our emotions. I knew my girls (and I) needed a change of scenery and a time away from sad vibes and I am so glad we had this time of constant joy! Every time we were talking about Emerson during our break, my girls had the biggest smiles and not tears for a change. They were happy remembering all the fun stuff that Emerson used to do or say.
On our way back home, I caught myself thinking how some of us tend to take things for granted most of the time. I was thinking how life is precious, how lucky we were for having this amazing holiday, how grateful we are for the existence of this lovely charity that made this possible for Emerson and our little family, how my girls and I saw the bright side of things and how happy Emerson would have been if he was physically with us.
We kept him in our thoughts and hearts all the time and that was, to me, a peaceful feeling. I was doing exactly what he wanted me to do: to have fun with our girls – if we are happy, he is/would certainly be happy too!
Thank you for everything!
Wishing you and the rest of the team all the very best and that you can continue to help other families sadly affected by cancer to also make happy and lasting memories again.
Luisa x”
