We are proud to work closely with MacMillan and one of its Family Liaison Officers introduced us to Rob and his wife Marilyn (Mazz) who was sadly diagnosed with laryngeal cancer in 2021. Treatment involved intensive radiotherapy which meant a 62-mile round trip every day to Mount Vernon Hospital in Middlesex for 30 days. This equated to around £360 in travel costs which would have significantly impacted the families finances. Mazz also lost a lot of weight meaning her clothes no longer fitted well.

Through our Benevolent Fund we were able to cover the travel costs, plus provide extra money for Mazz to buy new clothes. Rob, Mazz’s husband, explains the difference our support has made:
“My wife lost a considerable amount of weight since the cancer took hold. The grant helped her to get new clothes so she was confident to go out publicly when she was well enough to.”
Helping people like Mazz in this way leads to increased confidence, reduced financial stress and easier access to treatment which are so important when living with such a serious illness.
